Annotation
[1] AD, I-Ar. Although drawn specifically to collect taxes due in a portion of Sangamon County which had not been incorporated in Menard as anticipated, Lincoln left the name of the county blank so that the committee to which the bill was referred might decide which county (Sangamon or Menard) collector should function. The bill was referred to a select committee with Lincoln as chairman. The bill as amended appears under an amended title, January 28-30, 1840, infra.
