[1] AD, I-Ar. Lincoln wrote this bill to amend a Senate bill bearing the same title, but it was introduced in the House by John Crain, representative from Washington County. It passed the House, the Senate concurred, and the act may be found in Laws of Illinois, 1839, p. 242.

[2] Muddy River. The phrase ``at or near the coal banks on mudy---thence'' is an insertion not in Lincoln's hand.
