Rome / Base of the bronze statue of the celebrated Stilicho. Governor of the West in the time of the Emperor Honorius, whose praises are given by the poet Claudian; it originally stood on the rostra of the Forum Romanum; this base is now reserved in the garden of the French Academy, on the Pincian. The following inscription upon it:- / “Viro bis consuli ordinario, magistro utriusque militiae, comiti domesticorum et stabuli sacri, usque ab ineunte aetate per gradus clarissimae militiae ad columen regiae adfinitatis evecto, socio bellorum omnium et victoriarum, adfini etiam divi Theodosii Augusti, itemque socero domini nostri Honorii Augusti: populus Romanus, pro singulari ejus circa se amore adque providentia, statuam ex aere argentoque, in Rostris, ad memoriam gloriae sempiternae, conlocandam decrevit - Exequente Fl. Pisidio Romulo, viro clarissimo, praefecto urbis.” / Cardboard
