- Full Artifact Description
- Spindle wound with cotton, in good condition. Light brown reed with very smooth, shiny surface and linen thread.
- Spindle with thread. Reed, cotton (Karanis Revealed, Wilfong). Note by S. Davis on 9 July 2019 - the yarn / thread on the reed is linen, not cotton. Under magnification, the yarn shows the nodules characteristic of bast fibers and lacks the twists characteristic of cotton. With crossed polarized light the thread shows bright birifrigence in the colors of blue, green, and violet.
