. Pleasant—Rehearsing & walking A.M. writing and studying P.M. at Theatre 7 P.M. Played Franceis in the Stranger I wrote to Bates 's this A.M. stating that if he wcould separate Mr Tilton and myself it would be more agrreeable to my feelings and prove beneficial to his—Bates—interest. Tilton thus far has not done by me as I thought he would: he seems to be afraid to let me act any of the principal parts for fear of having some of the wind taken out of his sails, consequently he plays many characters that really belong to me—parts too for which he is really totally unfitted. Mrs McCredy does not draw.
