. Warm—Reading & Walking. A.M—at Williamsburgh [sic Williamsburg] all the P.M. and until 11 at night—got in company with Mrs Forbes who was an excellent talker, though not a learned one. She was first rate [sic first-rate] company to while away tedious time with. Her husband was the manager of the Providence museum. R.I. (Rhode Island) was very anxious to have me engage with him for the next season and I should have done so could we have agreed about the salary, but the highest figure on his salary list was fifteen dollars—a sum lower than I expect to play for this many a year to come
