Wed. 10 . Rainy—Rehearsal. A.M. writing & studying P.M. at Theatre 7 P.M. Benefit of Anderson and last appearance—"Damon & Pythias " and "The Wonder"—I did not like his make-up of the part, but his performance of it was really beautiful. He brings on Calanthe & Hermion in the last scene—this is decidedly wrong, at least, as regards Hermion, for it would have been impossible for her to reach Syracuse immediately upon the promulgation of her husband's pardon—There was nothing swifter than horse-flesh in the those days and that was put to its utmost tension to bring Damon there to the scaf place of execution in time to save his friend—besides this which, when Damon left home his wife was not in a travelling condition—The houses have been unaccountably bad during the whole of Andersons engagement—even his benefit was a poor one—I was sorry to see it because his talent deserved a better reward
