Pleasant—though colder—Reading, rehearsing & walking A.M. Writing & walking P.M. at Theatre 7 P.M. played Richmond in Richard III—first night I have played this week. After the piece was over there was a loud call for me—of which the prompter informed me, but after I had gone before the curtain, Sarzedas, the stage-manager [sic stage manager] , told me that I had no right to do so without first asking his permission, that it was Mr Bates' s wish that no stock-actor [sic stock actor] should appear before the curtain—It is now palpable that Sarzedas is opposed to me and seeks to injure me—I shall try to get even with him now that I know this to be so
