Mond 8th Warm. Down town with George A.M. At meeting of the Directors P.M. John Sefton proposed that the entire management of affairs on the day and night of the beneiftit be entrusted to me, with power to employ such persons as and incur what expense I deemed necessary: the motion was carried, but when the bill was being made out and N. B. Clarke said that my name ought to be placed on the bill it as manager, Sefton dissented, but the other directors said "yes", and the thing was done. I presume Sefton would have been willing that I should have had my labor for my pains, but did not intend that I should gain any credit by whatever I might do, that was more than he bargained for when he made his motion.
