Reading & walking. A.M. after dinner two or three ladies, members of Marsh's company having expressed a desire to see the water-works, as there was no other person to gallant them, I could not do less than offer my services—We had a very pleasant time of it. One of the party, Miss Melissa, was a ver about as pretty a girl as one would wish to see—were it not for her family connexions [sic connections] I should be tempted to court her a little and if she should prove worthy, offer her an engagement for life If ever I do marry I am determined there shall be no one to interfere with my Mother, and two sets of parents seldom agree—I have had strong proof of this—Walk after supper—to bed early
