A series of three articles by Platzman, Irish, and Hughes in Monthly Weather Review, volume 93, number 5, May 1965, and a report by the Illinois Division of Waterways in 1958 serve as sources of much of the below as well as giving references to other pertinent literature. The records indicate that there are frequent small seiches of a few inches amplitude. These are not regarded as being of importance.
