Contemporary Gemengraver, born at Colombes (Seine); pupil of Gaulard. At the Salon of I892 he exhibited a Portrait-cameo of Mme de Lamballe; - I893. Josephine Bonaparte, cameo; - I895. Bacchus, cameo in chalcedonyx, etc. GOUY, GUILLAUME (Fr'ench). Mint-engraver at Rouen, circ. r566 -1567. GOVERS (or GOVERTS), ABRAHAM (Dutch). Goldsmith of Middelburgh, a member of the guild in 655; from 1672 to I675 he was Mint-engraver there. GOYART, HANS (Germi.). Goldsmith and Seal-engraver at Frankenthal, 1593. GRAAFT, GOTTFRIED(B.D-.M., Vol. II, p. 307). Enjoyed considerable reputation as a Gem-engraver at Rome about I760. GRABMANN, HANS (Germ.). Mint-master at Landshut, I445. GRAF, BERTHOLD (Germ.). Die-engraver, Goldsmith and Painter on glass, born at Soleure in I485, died at Basle in I529; working at Strassburg in 1503; 507- 508 in the employ of the Zurich goldsmith, Lienhard Triublin; I509 again at Basle, and in 151 I at Strassburg. In I 5 r he entered Roman service, and enlisted in I 515 for the Campaign of Milan. In 1512 he acquired the freedom of the city of Basle for 4 gulden, disappeared in 15 8 to return in I5 19; spent most of the year 523 in prison and obtained his release in 1523 on the request of the Confederates present at the Shooting Festival. In commission for the City Council he cut the dies for the coinage from about r5 6 to I532, in \which case must be ascribed to him the Dicken of I520 and 152r (struck also in half, double and quadruple thickness and value) with the crowned Madonna (Ewig, I25, 323-325), which Dr J.Cahn (RappenlJnibnll nd, p. 128), is inclined to give to Jorg Schweizer.
