the basis of Table VII in the chapter on finance, the expenditure would be as follows: Salaries $1,839; interest and reduction of church debt, $975; benevolences, and miscellaneous
items such as heat, light, publicity, insurance, rent, $894;
church overhead, including education and mission, $281; repairs and upkeep, approximately $268.

THE AVERAGE EXPENDITURE OF 251 NORTHERN CHURCHES IN 1930
The 251 churches of the North raised $1,741,761, or an
average of $6,939 per church. It was spent in this manner:
salaries of all kinds, $2,984; interest and reduction of church
debt, $1,596; benevolences, and miscellaneous items such as
heat, light, insurance, rent, and publicity, $1,457; church
overhead, including education and missions, $451; and approximately $451 for repairs and upkeep.
The average expenditure of $6,939 per church in the 251
northern churches, and the average of $3,472 per church in
the 358 southern churches for 1930, are contrasted below:
