naning. A large wasp; cf. aning. Ayam
biring sangka naning: a fighting-cock with a
yellow beak and legs and other markings
which are believed to be lucky and to render
it invincible. Naning is also the name of a
district (formerly a state) in Malacca territory.
The 'ddat Naning or customary law of this
district contains many peculiar features, including inheritance through females instead of
by male descent.
