VDA, m/mbachang. The horse-mango, mangifera
foetida. Also bachang, machang, embachang
and hetbachang.
\ mdmbalau. Solder, glue; to glue; to make fast
the haft of a knifein the handle. Cf. embalau

m6mb6rang. The otter, lutra vulgaris; also
C,- (Riau, Johor) berang-berang and (Kedah)
menmerang.
'. mambang. I. A spirit; the personification
of the golden sunset clouds. MI. kuning: id.,when, after a rainy day the sunset seems to
give a yellow tinge to everything; Ht. Abd.,
154. This tinge is believed to be the work of
evil spirits and to bring disease in its train.
II. A title sometimes given to a headman
of Semangs.
mambong. Hollow; lacking in fleshy substance; empty, especially of fruit. Temtpuwi
inambong: the young "tampui " fruit (baccaurea malayana); J. S. A. S., VIII., I32.

mennanam inumbang, kalant hidop turus negeri:

prolonged by a diacritical mark, of an Arabic

&Va mempaga. A plant (unidentified). Also
mepagra., ^ mampaus. A tree (unidentified)., mampat. I. Tight; close to one another;
thick; densely packed.
II. Mampat-mampat hutan: a name given to
some trees; cratoxylon formosum and cratoxylon
polyanthum.
Malmpat padang: a plant; daphni-phyllum
larimnunm..ii\l mempadal. The gizzard. Also enmpdal and
pedal.
He mempdu. Gall, bile; thegall-bladder. Also
)-w empedu and htnmpedu.
mampus. To die; to be wiped out completely; to perish; cf. apus. Raksasa itu-pun
terbuntang-lah mata-nya ka-atas saperti orang
hendak mampuss: the evil spirit turned up his
eyes like a man about to give up the ghost;
Ht. Ind. Meng. Makanan payah, binatang
mampus: food is hard to get and the animals
are dying; Sh. Tab. Mimp., 15.
Mampus is never polite; it is either used in
self-abasement or in insult or of animals.
Biyar hamba mampus: may I die like the beasts
of the field; Ht. Best. Hiedak mampus-kah
engkau ini: do you want to be utterly wiped
out; Ht. Pg. Ptg.
