V Aim langkas. Fiery, of a steed; spirited; active,
of a man. Cf. tangkas.
CSj lingkas. A variant of ringkas, q. v.
i,~i lengkang or lingkang. 1. Ring-shaped; a
circumference; a numeral coefficient for
bracelets, anklets, and objects of similar
appearance. Cf. lengkar and chelengkang.
L. lengkok: meandering. Cf. bengkang.
II. To peel off, of paint, whitewash, etc.
langkang. Terlangkang: opening out; wide
apart at the extremities, of a buffalo's horns;
cf. bangkang.
n lngkong. I. Bowed, bow-shaped.
II. (Onom.) A deep booming sound; cf.
kong, gong, etc.
lengkeng. A name (said to be Chinese) given
to the buwah bidara.
y, lengkong or lingkong. Circular, curving;
motion in a circular; the rim of a wheel.
Habis di-lengkong sakaliyan kota: they completely surrounded all the forts; Sh. Pr. Turki,
ii. Kuwala di-lengkong karan g: an estuary
encircled by reefs; Pel. Abd., Io9.
Lengkongan bulan: the revolutions of the
moon; the name of a Malay paper published in
Singapore (A. D. 1900).
J longkang. A drain, a cesspool. Di-bawah
e rumah-nya itu pentohlah dengan longkang dan
samtpah-sampah: the space below their houses
was occupied by cesspools and rubbish-heaps;
Pel. Abd., 77. Kain dalam achar kutip chuchi
diya hendak masok ka-dalam longkang juga:
you may pick out an old garment from the
sink and you may clean it, but it will want to
go back into the cesspool all the same; you
may educate a man of low tastes but he will
return to his vices just the same; Prov.
Laksana intan manikam jatoh di-longkang ta'hilang chehaya: like diamonds and pearls
which do not lose their lustre even if they fall
into a cesspool; characters which the worst
surroundings cannot degrade; Prov.
In Penang parit is used of an open running
drain where longkang would be used in
Singapore.

spoilt, wasted, spent (of money or property).

j 1 lingkup. I. Bundling a thing to one side;
laying a table-cloth or any similar object so
that it hangs down principally on one side;
wearing a veil so that it hangs down
extensively on one or more sides. Bertudong
lintgkup:veiled in this way; Ht. Koris.
II. Spent, destroyed; = lingkap.
lungkup. To capsize; a variant of langkup,
q. v.

wood well-adapted for shipbuilding; K1., v.

J.~ lengkok. Me'lengkok: to bend, wind, or
curve,-as a river or road. Cf. chelengkok.
Lengkanig-lengkok: winding, meandering.
J longkum or lungkum. Dome-like, domeshaped; convex on one side and concave on
the other.
Kmj langkan. [Chin. ldn-kan.] A balcony; a
balustrade or railing.,K langkau. Skipping; overlapping; omitting
and resuming; leaving a blank space in writing, or omitting paragraphs when reading.
(^\ Ilngkuwas. An aromatic plant used in
making curries, alpinia galanga; Muj., 51. L.
nuda: the young lengkuwas fruit, a proverbial
simile fora beautiful heel; Ht. Koris. L.
ranting: a small wild ginger, alpinia conchigera.
