OtTANG [ 562 ] GtDUBANG GtTANG [ 562 ] Gi9DUBANG S g6tang. I. Covering tautly, e.g., covering the mouth of a jar with a piece of parchment tightly stretched across it. Cf. ketang, chkang, etc. II. A plant (unidentified); also called (Kedah) gegetang. gtil. Pinching, nipping. Bagai belut di-getil ekor: like an eel when you pinch its tail (off like lightning); a proverbial description of a hasty departure. Cf. ketip, ktan, getanz, getu and kebam.,; gdtam. To bite the upper lip; cf. kebam. 4 g6tu. To nip between the finger nails. Cf. getil, chubit, gdtam, etc. Menggitu kuman: "to kill an insect; " (by extension) to work off ennui by exercise, to go out in order to pass the time. A4S g6tah. Latex or gum produced by trees; birdlime; gum generally; cautchouc; gutta. Pokok g.: a cautchouc-yielding tree. Niyat hati, nak gttah bayan, sudah getah burong serindit: I wanted to lime a parrokeet but only limed a serindit; I got something but not exactly what I wanted; Prov. Daun dapat di-layang, getah jatoh ka-perdu juga: leaves may be borne away by the breeze but the gum of a tree falls near its base; a man's acquaintances may desert him but his blood relations fall with him; Prov. G. ipoh: the poisonous sap of the ipoh (antiaris toxicaria); the vegetable poison used by the aborigines on their darts. The following are the principal varieties of gutta with the plants from which they are obtained:G. geharu': wilhtghbeia cariacea. G. gerit, g. gegtrit or g. senggerit: rubber vines of the order apocynacece; v. gerit. G. hudang: garcinia, sp. G. jelutong: dyera costulata. G. menjawa: = g. geharu. G. percha: dichopsis gutta. G. percha burong: payena maingayi. G. pulai: alstonia scholaris. G. puyoh: leptaspis urceolata. a4a\. gbdabah. A hair ornament worn by women; KI., Pijn., v. d. W. HC-' g6d6bong. I. A cylindrical box of bamboo (tabong) fitted with a cover. I I. A square piece of cloth the central portion of which is in two folds, forming a sort of pouch. J,5 g6d6buk. (Onom.) Extreme emaciation; . — = (Riau, Johor) kWdengkek. - g6dik. acutely ketar. Tegedik-gedik: (Kedah) shivering with cold; - stronger than terkgtar-,Aff g6dok or g6duk. (Province Wellesley.) The drum of a mosque, used for summoning people to prayer or meetings but not for musical purposes. Also bedok and gendang raya. Geduk-geduk: (Kedah) a small drum beaten on one side only. The performer sits on the ground, while the drum rests on the ground with its face tilted up towards the drummer. ~Si& g6digap. (Penang.) Very coarse or rough, of a fabric or of behaviour. a <. g6dombang. Siput gidombang: a shell (unidentified).,4..J~ g6dombak. A drum used in ma'yong performances; it is beaten on one side only, the other side tapering away to a point. Ierlalu sangat gemuroh bunyi gendang gedombak: very loud was the sound of the drums and gedombak; Ht. Koris. Orang Siyam main aesnora, Pukid gedombak kerachap bambu; Sunggoh berdiyamn, detngan berkera, Supaya jangan terkena sbmu: the Siamese are giving a menora performance; they are beating the gedombak and using their castanets. C. g0dubang. An Achinese broadsword; Sh. Pr. Q?~ Ach., i. G. G. susu: = g. jelutong. taban merah: = g. percha. G. taban puteh: dichopsis obovata. G. trap: artocarpus kunstleri. gti.
