A name given to the heroes of the Mahabharata, the five sons of Pandu. The three most commonly known are Yudisthira (Malay: Maharaja Dermawangsa; Arjuna (Sang Ranjuna) and Bhima (Sang Birma). Hikdyat Pandawa Jaya, Hikayat Pandawa Lima: names of Malay stories borrowed from the Mahabharata. These heroes have also given their names to patterns of swords, rings, etc.; e. g., imngunus pandawa, Ht. Hg. Tuw., 39; bUrchinchin pandawa-jaya, Ht. Ind.
