sikin or sikkin. [Arab. sikkin.] A knife;

sSga. Smooth; shining on the surface, as
paper. Rotan s.: the common rattan of
commerce. Rotan s. badak: a variety, calamus
ornatus.
s6gara. I. [Skr. sagara.] The ocean.
Gelombang di-tengah segara: the waves in the
midst of the sea; Bint. Tim., 14 March, 1895.
Ombak segara terlalu besar-nya: the waves of
the ocean were of enormous size; Ht. Sh.
Segara kidul: the Southern Ocean, the Indian
Ocean, as viewed from Java; Ht. Mas Ed.
Segara madu, or madu segara: an expression
significant of great sweetness, but differently
interpreted by Malay writers, some of whom
take segara to mean "ocean" and others
"sugar." Segara madu pantai-nya gula: an
ocean of honey with a beach of sugar; Sh.

berpantaikan segara: a sea of honey with a

s6gar. The feeling of health and strength;
fitness. Segar-lah tuboh-nya: he felt strong;
Ht. Abd., 467. Maka Jaya Lenggara itu-pun
bgrasa-lah segar tuboh-nya sakit itu: Jaya
Lenggara felt health returning to his body
weakened by disease; Ht. Jay. Lengg.
s g6ra or sig ra. [Skr. shighra.] Speedily,
quickly, without delay, promptly. Barang
suwatu perbuwatan-niya itu berlambatan tiyada
dengan sigera: everything he did was slow,
it was not done promptly; Ht. Abd., 337.
Sigera di-usir-nya: he promptly chased him;
Ht. Gul. Bak., 4. Menyiggrakan: to hurry up,
to expedite. M. semnboh: to expedite recovery;
Muj., 22.
s/garba. A variant of sekerba, q. v.

in harmony or unison.

19. Segan berkayoh peerahu hanyut: if you are
slow to paddle, your boat will be borne
away by the current; Prov. Segan bgrtanya
sesat jalan: if you are slow to make enquiries
you will only lose your way, Prov. These
proverbs also occur with the word malu
taking the place of segan.
Penyegan: sluggard. Jangait di-beri iya-nya
penyegan: do not allow him to be a sluggard;
Sh. Nas., 8. The form pesegan also occurs:

s/guntang. The Sacred Mountain from
which Sang Seperba descended; a mountain
in the interior of Palembang; Sej. Mal. Often
called segantang by Peninsular Malays.
seganda. [Skr. gandha: fragrance.] A name
or introductory name (" the fragrant ") given
to a number of flowers, e. g., seganda puri,
(Sh. Sri Ben., 25), seganda mala (Ht. Sri
Rama). See ganda.
