d6haga. Thirst. Terlabl dAhaga: very
thirsty; Ht. Jay. Lengg. Lapar dehaga:
hunger and thirst; Cr. Gr., 80; Ht. Gul.
Bak., 28. Metnghapus dehaga: to satisfy one's
thirst. Bertambah dehaga: one's thirst increases; Ht. Sh. Kub. Often pronounced
dah'ga.
otd d6hagi. I. Extremely covetous; extreme
greed.
II. Mendehagi: to force one's way up
against a current; cf. daki, and daga.
A.&^. d6hana. (Kedah.) Mendehana: to beg, to
importune for gifts; (also) to give. Cf. dana.
j~b2 dahashat. Arab. Consternation, panic-fear,
excited alarm, terror. Makin-lah dahashat
orang: the panic became greater; Ht. Abd.,
82,322. Menberi d.: to rouse or excite panic,
to instil fear, to terrify.
J d6hem or d6ham. Hum, h'm; a noise made
to attract the attention of one person without
its being marked by others. Jeling dan dehem:z
sidelong looks and hums and hints; Sh.

5c diya. He, him, she, it, they; the third personal pronouns when following a word ending
in ). A kan.diya: him, to him; =akan iya.
This form is also used when the pronoun is
emphatic.

~c diyat. [Arab. t.] Blood-money; the price
of a life taken; the wehr-geld among Malays.
The word is also used (in the form pendiyah)
of an expiatory fine for not attending mosque...b didis. I. Mendidis: to hash.
II. Musang didis: an unidentified species of
civet-cat., didek. Bringing up from extreme youth to
maturity; fostering carefully. This word is
used especially of men bringing up young
animals the mothers of which die.
Ayam punggok, ayam ku didek,
Terbang ka-ladang makan padi;
Barang yang burok jangan di-belek,
Silap mata telrkena metmbeli:
this punggok fowl, this fowl I myself brought
up, has flown to the padi-field and is eating
the grain!
C.A. dideh. The boiling or effervescence of liquids.
Mendideh: to boil up, J. I. A., I., 316. The
form menideh is common (Kedah); cf. also
Muj., 47. In Kedah nmenideh is used of boiling
and dideh of skimming off the thick upper
surface of a liquid.
L-I.) didi. An exclamation for calling ducks. Also
' riri.
deret. A row, a long line. Berderet-deret: in
rows, in long lines,-as people fleeing from a
stricken city.
Lc,^ dirus. Watering, irrigating. Ayer dirus
segala pohun-pohun: the water for irrigating
the plants; Ht. Best. Mendirus ayer kapada
sireh: to pour water on the sireh-vines; Ht.
Mar. Mah. Mendiruskan: to water, to irrigate; Ht. Ind. Meng.; Ht. Mar. Mah.

3, 4. Diri-tt: you yourselves. Diri-nya:
himself, herself, itself, themselves. The word

diri is also occasionally used as a pronoun of
the second person. Hai saudara-ku, diri dipanggil uleh Shaikh bandar ka-rumah-nya: my
brother, you are summoned by the Shaikh of
the city to his house; Ht. Pg. Ptg.
Di-dalam d.: to oneself; mentally. Berkata
di-dalam diri: to say to oneself.
