72 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1252. Membrane 4-cont. purchased and 1 tun of prisage, to Raymond Ern' de Cimbel 71. for 4 tuns purchased and 1 tun of prisage, to Raymond de Agre 110s. for 3 tuns purchased and 1 tun of prisage, to Ern' de Vinal 20s. for 1 tun of prisage, and to Peter Maysent 110s. for 3 tuns purchased and 1 tun of prisage, bought for the king at London by the hands of Ernald Geroudun and Thomas Esperun in the 36th year. By the steward. Sept. 25. Liberate to Master Henry the king's surgeon 100s.for Michaelmas Windsor. term in the 36th year of the 101. granted to him yearly at the Exchequer till the king shall make provision for him in lands of that value. Sept. 24. To the bailiff of Montgomery. Contrabreve to spend the farm Hatfield. due for this Michaelmas term by view and testimony of lawful men on the works enjoined upon him there. To Alan la Zuche, justice of Chester. Contrabreve to lead, roof, and repair where necessary the king's towers, turrets, and buildings of Chester, Gannoc, Dissard, Stotewyk, and Frodesham, the cost to be credited by view. Sept. 25. To the sheriffs of London. Contrabreve to carry to the king Windsor. at Windesores 15 tuns of good must which will be delivered by Thomas Sperun and Ernald Geroudun the king's chamberlains of London, so that he shall have 5 tuns before the coming Sunday, without fail as they love themselves. Mandate to the said chamberlains to send the same. Enrolment of an agreement between Humphrey de Wetherden, chaplain, and William Cokerel. Humphrey by his charter has enfeoffed William of the land and meadow in Wetherden whereof William disseised him as he said, for 21 marks, whereof William paid 5 marks on the morrow of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in the 36th year, and will pay to Humphrey, his heirs or assigns, 5 marks at Christmas, 5 marks at Easter following, and 7 marks at Michaelmas after that, reckoning to William in the last payment half a mark of the king's amercement into which Humphrey fell, and for which William was his surety. Should William fail of payment at any of these terms, he shall pay the king 40s. for every failure, the principal contract remaining nevertheless in full force. William grants that he, his heirs or executors, shall be distrained by sufficient distress both for the debt and for the penalty. For greater security he has found as pledges William de Teydon, Robert de Ecclesia of Sherlaunde, Geoffrey Waspayl, Ralph le Ram, Robert le Fittere, and William Fare, each of whom binds himself by the same conditions, agreements, and penalties as William, making himself principal
