70 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1252. Membrane 4-cont. marks delivered in the wardrobe at St. Edmund's to P. Chaceporc, keeper, on the Monday before the Nativity of St. Mary. Liberate to Geoffrey de Lezignan the king's brother 300 marks [of the first money which shall come to the Exchequer].* Sept. 4. St. Edmund's. Sept. 5. St. Edmund's. To the sheriff of Suffolk. Contrabreve to give a tun of good wine without delay to Beatrice, wife of Master Richard the king's harper. Allocate to Robert le Vavassur, sheriff of Nottingham and Derby, in the issues of the last eyre for common pleas in those counties, 2971. 4s. 5~d. delivered in the wardrobe at St. Edmund's to P. Chaceporc, keeper, on the Thursday before the Nativity of St. Mary. To the sheriffs of London. Contrabreve to let Roger le Taillur, king's serjeant, have fifteen thousand of wax, as they love themselves and their chattels. Sept. 6. St. Edmund's. To the sheriff of Oxford. Contrabreve to carry the 60 fothers of lead which the sheriff of Warwick will deliver to Windesores for the king's works there, and 12 fothers to Wudestok for the like purpose, all without delay. Sept. 13. To the sheriff of Hants. Contrabreve to receive 20 stags which St. Edmund's. John de Venuz will take in the forest of Vulvemere and Axiholt by the aid of Robert de Sancto Johanne and will deliver, and to salt them and carry them to Westminster against the feast of St. Edward for delivery to the keeper of the king's larder. To the sheriff of Nottingham. Contrabreve to receive 30 bucks and 16 stags which John de Lessintun will take in the forest of Shirewoode by the aid of Adam de Everingham and will deliver, and to salt them and carry them to Westminster as above. To the sheriff of Northampton. Contrabreve to find necessaries for six gerfalcons newly sent to the king, which are in the keeping of Henry de Hauvill, as long as they shall so remain, that is, id. daily for each of them. To the sheriffs of London. Contrabreve to let a white bear, which the king is sending to the Tower to be kept there, and its keeper, have 4d. daily for their maintenance so long as they are there. * Substituted for without delay.
