Membrane 5-cont. the king has returned to Edmund de Lacy the lands of Edmund's fee which were in Guy's keeping, 541. due from him as arrears of knights in Gascony, that is 181. in Michaelmas term of the 36th year, and 361. at the same term in the two years following. By K. Note that Geoffrey Rydel the elder and the younger of Blaye and Gerard de Blavia have been satisfied of their fees till Michaelmas in the 36th year, as appears on the Close Roll. Contrabreve to make a building under the king's chamber in the manor and a wall between the king's kitchen and larder, to turf the great lawn (herbarium), to buy a fair table to keep in the queen's chamber, to place two pictures of two bishops in the king's great chapel and one of St. Mary in the chapel of St. Edward, and to make a fireplace in the queen's kitchen; the cost to be credited by view. To the bailiffs of Bristol. Contrabreve to carry to the house of the friars preachers of Bristol 30 oaks with their fallen wood (escaetis) which the king has given to the said friars in his wood of Kinggeswod without Bristol. By K. To Hugh Garget. Contrabreve to pay 401. to the works at Wudestok to John de Hannebergh and Peter de Legh, keepers thereof, out of the issues of his bailiwick. To the constable of Merleberge. Contrabreve to salt and carry to the king 15 bucks from the forest of Savernake and 15 from that of Chet which the king is sending his yeoman John de Muscegros to take. To the bailiffs of Bristol. Contrabreve to buy a tun of good wine in Bristol and let Nicholas de Sancto Mauro have it of the king's gift. By K. Aug. 21. Allocate to Peter Chacepork, keeper of the castle of St. Briavels Brill. and the forest of Dene, in the farm of that bailiwick, 201. granted to him for his expenses in going beyond seas on the king's errand. By K. Liberate to Martin the greater, king's crossbowman, 20 marks, and to Martin the less, king's crossbowman, 10 marks, for their horses lost in the king's service. By P. Chaceporc.
