628 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1260. Membrane 3-cont. lately sent Peter de Nevill and the sheriff to view the said defects and to inquire by estimate of good and lawful men for what sum they could be repaired and amended, and they have now informed him that it can be done for 401. till he desires a further amendment. To the bailiffs of Basingstok. Contrabreve to let Reynold de Drumar', knight, have 10 marks out of the farm of their town of the king's gift for his maintenance. Like writ to the bailiffs of Andover and Alton. To the sheriff of Dorset. Contrabreve to repair and amend without delay where absolutely necessary the roof of the king's chapel in Dorchester castle, [and] the corner thereof, which has fallen down, the cost to be credited by view and testimony of lawful men. Sept. 8. To William de Glouc', keeper of the exchange. Contrabreve Clarendon. to make a golden censer of 3 marks' weight without delay out of the issues out of the exchange, so that the king may have it ready by any means at Westminster at the coming feast of St. Edward, not failing hereof as he loves the king and his honour. To the sheriffs of London. Contrabreve to let the three brothers of Sonevill, disinherited on the king's account, have 7 marks of the king's gift for their expenses without delay out of the issues of the city. To the sheriff of Wilts. Contrabreve to repair and amend without fail where absolutely necessary before the coming winter the king's buildings of the castle of Corf which are fallen down, and to let William Bawhe have half a mark for keeping the king's lead which Robert de Chaudon, formerly constable of the castle, delivered to him to keep, and which the king lately ordered to be delivered to Hugh le Paumer and his colleagues, viewers of the works of the castle, to carry thither for the said works. MEMBRANE 2. Sept. 12. To Nicholas de Haudlo, keeper of the bishopric of Winchester. Ludgershall. Contrabreve, on his loyalty, to pay up to 2,200 marks out of the issues of the bishopric and the coming fair of Winchester for purchases to be made by Richard de Ewell and Hugh de Turri, buyers for the wardrobe, in the said fair against the knighting of John de Britannia and the coming feasts of St. Edward and Christmas, namely silken and gold-wrought cloths, other cloths and furs for robes, cloths for alms, horses, palfreys, wax, and spices, not failing hereof as he loves the king, the king's honour, and his own safety.
