44 HENRY III. 509 1260. Membrane 7-cont. June 9. Liberate to Hugh the king's falconer 41. 2s., to his two porters Merton. (portitoribus) 75s. 2d., and to Ralph de Erleham the king's falconer 30s. 9d., for their wages from Wednesday the morrow of St. Martin last past till the vigil of the Purification following, during which time they dwelt with Hugh le Bygod, justiciar of England, while the king was outside the realm, as reckoned by Aubrey de Fiscampis and Peter de Winton, clerks of the wardrobe. Allocate to William de Glouc', keeper of the exchange, in the issues thereof, 40 marks of silver in lieu of 4 marks of gold which he delivered to the king on his last return from beyond seas to offer at the feretory of St. Edward at Westminster as arrears of his oblations for his four voyages, he being bound so to offer a mark of gold every time he returns from beyond seas; and 42s. of silver for 36 gold obols (ob' de musch'), 9 marks of silver for a gold buckle, 21 marks of silver for 20 golden pennies of the new coinage, and 10 marks of silver for an embroidered choir-cope, all of which he delivered to the king on his last return from beyond seas to make his oblations as above, as testified by the same clerks of the wardrobe. To Nicholas de Haudlo, keeper of the bishopric of Winchester. Contrabreve to let Philip Basset have 100 marks out of the issues of the bishopric of the king's gift for his expenses in dwelling at London on the king's business when the king was outside the realm. June 12. Liberate to Aubrey de Fiscampis and Peter de Winton, keepers Westminster. of the wardrobe, 40 marks for the expenses of the household. To the sheriff of Somerset and Dorset. Contrabreve to spend 1131. 13s. 4d. on repairs of the king's buildings at Gyllingham by the counsel of Adam de Greynvill and the view and testimony of lawful men, as the king lately sent Adam thither to view the defects thereof and to inquire by the estimate of good and lawful men for how much they could be amended, and he has informed the king that it could be done for that sum with the king's own timber as follows: The king's hall 201.; his chamber and the queen's chamber and chapel 201.; the king's chapel, the penthouse between the hall and the king's chamber, lead for roofing and ridges, and iron bars, 401.; the colonnade (orielli) between the chapel and the king's chamber, 40s.; the chamber of Edward the king's son, 4 marks; the king's cellar, 1 mark; a chamber by the king's chapel northwards 2 marks; a chamber at the end of the hall westwards 12 marks; the king's kitchen 40s., his stable 408., and his barns 151. The keeper of the forest of Gillingham is commanded to let the sheriff have as much timber in the forest as is needed for these works. By the king and the justiciar.
