CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS.

Aug. 24. To the sheriff of Northampton. Contrabreve to receive 20
Westminster. bucks to be taken in the forest of Whittlewode by Henry de
Candevre and John Lovel the king's huntsmen and delivered to
him, and to carry the venison to the king at Westminster for
delivery to the keeper of the larder against the coming feast of
St. Edward.
To the sheriff of Wilts. The like concerning 30 bucks to be
taken by the same huntsmen in the forest of Clarendon.
Aug. 26. Liberate to the friars preachers of London 101. for the king's
Westminster. gift for their clothing.
Liberate to Aubrey de Fiscampis and Peter de Winton, clerks
of the wardrobe, 1001. for the expenses of the household.
To Nicholas de Haudlou, keeper of the bishopric of Winchester.
Contrabreve to let Henry de Candevre and John Lovel the king's
huntsmen, whom the king is sending to take bucks in divers
forests, have 101. without delay out of the issues of the bishopric
for their expenses.
To the same. Contrabreve to let the friars preachers of Winchester have 100s. of the king's gift out of the issues of the
coming fair of St. Giles at Winchester for the provision (procurationem) of their chapter.
To the sheriff of'York. Contrabreve to repair the defects of
the buildings, walls, tower, turrets and bridges of the castle of
Scardeburg where absolutely necessary out of the issues of the
county.
To the same. Contrabreve to provide the king with a fit
chaplain by the counsel of Gilbert de Gaunt, constable of the castle
of Scardeburg, to celebrate divine service in the chapel there, to
let him have 50s. yearly for his wages as long as he is sheriff by
view and testimony of Gilbert, and to find a lamp burning there
night and day, the cost to be credited by view and testimony of
Gilbert, as the king wishes service to be celebrated there daily
as in the chapels of his other castles throughout England.
Westminster. Liberate to Matthias de la Mare 10 marks for Michaelmas term
in the 42nd year and 10 marks for Easter term [following] *
of the 20 marks yearly which he receives at the Exchequer.
