440 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1258. Membrane 8-cont. Nov. 7. Liberate to Robert de Foleham, clerk of the Exchequer, 50s. Westminster. reward for his labour in composing and writing certain charters in English and French made by ordinance of the magnates of the king's council, which are being sent through all the counties of England. Liberate to Peter de Monte Forti from the money coming from Winchester 200 marks to spend on the guard and defence of the marches of Wales as may be needful. Vacated quia redditum fuit breve. Nov. 12. Liberate to the messengers of Richard de Munbiliard, William Westminster. de Pemmes, William de Chanlite, Richard de Moret, and Punsard de Dumes, who came to the king for the fees due from him to their lords, 20 marks to distribute among them as the treasurer and barons shall see fit for their return homewards, as the king cannot at present satisfy their lords. Liberate to the friars preachers of Canterbury, for the need in which they now are, as the king understands by S. de Monte Forti, earl of Leicester, and R. de Clare, earl of Gloucester and Hertford, 321. promised to them by the king's letters patent (Calendar of Patent Rolls, 1247-1258, p. 653), receiving from them the said letters. Nov. 13. Allocate to William de Axemuth, formerly keeper of the abbey Guildford. of Bardeneye, in the issues thereof, 67s. delivered in the wardrobe at Northampton to Aubrey de Fiscanno and Peter de Winton, clerks thereof, on St. Bartholomew's day last. Nov. 15. Liberate to Hugh de Turri, king's clerk, 101. for Michaelmas term Windsor. in the 41st year of the 201. granted to him yearly at the Exchequer in the office of buyer of the wardrobe. To Henry de Farleg', keeper of the forest of Windesores. Contrabreve to repair the defects of the king's park of Windesores where absolutely necessary. Nov. 17. To the sheriff of Northampton. Contrabreve to carry all the Windsor. lead which is in his keeping, of that which the king sent him from Derbyshire, to Windsor with all speed for delivery to the keepers of the works of the castle, not failing hereof as he loves himself. To Henry de Farleg', keeper of the manors of Kocham and Braye. Contrabreve to let Geoffrey de Sotton have 50s. for Michaelmas term in the 42nd year of the 100s. granted to him thence yearly by charter (Calendar of Patent Rolls, 1247-1258, p. 407).
