418 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1258. Membrane 2-cont. Jan. 2. To the sheriff of York. Contrabreve to let Alan le Usser have Merton. 40 marks of the king's gift out of the issues of the county. Jan. 3. To the sheriff of Kent. Contrabreve to finish and equip without Merton. delay out of the issues of the county the two galleys and two barges which the king ordered to be made at Wynchelse by Roger de Cobeham, formerly sheriff. Jan. 9. Allocate to the bailiffs of Clyve, in the farm of the manor, (corrected 9s. 2d. spent in buying dough (pasto), pepper and salt for putting from 8.) 20 bream in paste and salting 9 pike taken in the king's stew of Merton. Clyve, in carriage thereof from Clyve to Westminster against the last feast of St. Edward, and in purchase of a barrel to carry them, as reckoned and testified by William de Grey and Imbert de (sic) Pugeys the king's stewards. Jan. 9. Allocate to the bailiffs of Brikestok, in the farm of the manor, Merton. 2s. 5d. spent in salt for salting 19 pickerel taken in the king's stew of Bristok, in carriage (portagio) thereof from Bristok to Westminster against the last feast of St. Edward, and in carriage (cariagio) of a barrel from Pippewell to Bristok to hold them, as reckoned etc. (as above). To the sheriffs of London. Contrabreve to buy a thousand of wax for the queen without delay out of the farm of the city, and to deliver it in her wardrobe to the keeper thereof. To the bailiffs of Suthampton. ~ Contrabreve to let Bartholomew Peche have a tun of wine without delay of the king's gift out of the farm of their town. Liberate to Lucy de Bray 100s. for Michaelmas term in the 41st year of the 101. yearly which she receives for her maintenance. Jan. 10. To the sheriff of Somerset and Dorset. Contrabreve to let Merton. Ralph de Gorges have 201. without delay out of the issues of those counties of the arrears of his fee, whereof he received nothing at the Exchequer by the writ of liberate which he had. Note that the writ of liberate for the last term of his fee is to be found above. Jan. 14. Liberate to Ernald de Rabyn, merchant of William de Taliva, Windsor. 2j marks of the king's gift for his expenses. Liberate to the king's brother William de Valencia 1001. which he lent to pay Robert son of Nicholas for the manor of Dunham, which he demised and quitclaimed to the king to the use of
