414 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1257. Membrane 3-cont. To the sheriff of Warwick and Leicester. Contrabreve to buy 100 quarters of wheat and 200 quarters of oats in his bailiwick without delay and carry them to Chester by 3 weeks from Easter against the king's arrival. Dec. 14. Liberate to Elerius, abbot of Persor', 301. 7s. 3id. to distribute Westminster. among the king's workmen at Gillingham, for arrears of their wages while the said abbot had the keeping of the manor and the works there. To the sheriffs of London. Contrabreve to let John the chaplain the king's almoner have 150 pairs of shoes for the poor (as on pp. 344-5). To the bailiffs of Suthampton. Contrabreve to pay out of the farm of their town for 24 tuns of wine of the king's lawful prisage which the keeper thereof at Suhthampton will deliver, and carry 12 tuns to Clarendun and 12 to Merleberg and place them safely in the king's cellars there. Dec. 12. To the sheriff of Northampton. Contrabreve (as to the sheriff Westminster. of Warwick in the fourth entry above). The like to the sheriff of Nottingham for 150 quarters of wheat and 150 quarters of oats, to the sheriff of Cumberland for 500 salmon, and to the sheriff of Northumberland for 500 salmon. Dec. 12. To the sheriff of Wilts. Contrabreve to buy 150 quarters of Westminster. wheat and 200 quarters of oats in his bailiwick without delay against the king's arrival at Chester, and carry them to Bristol by 3 weeks from Easter at the latest. Dec. 13. To the sheriff of Sussex. The like for 500 carcasses of bacon. Westminster. The like to the sheriff of Gloucester for 200 quarters of wheat, and to the sheriff of Somerset for 100 quarters of wheat and 200 quarters of oats. Dec. 16. Liberate to Peter de Ryvallis 60 marks to pay the expenses of the Westminster. household. Dec. 15. To the bailiffs of Suthampton. Contrabreve to carry 30 tuns of Westminster. wine to Winchester with all speed, 2 to Wherewell, 30 to Clarendon, 6 to Lutegareshale, 20 to Marleberg, 2 to Sandeford, 8 to Oxford, 2 to Abbendon, 30 to Wodestok, 4 to Bruhill, 2 to Chauton, 12 to Gildeford, 10 to Rading, and 2 to Shireburn out of 160 to be taken at Suthampton or Portesmuth and delivered to them by Peter de Gisors, taker of the king's wines, and to place them safely in the cellars there.
