390 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1257. Membrane 3-cont. Allocate to William Mansell, formerly sheriff of Warwick and Leicester, in the issues of those counties, 331. 6s. 8d. paid in the wardrobe to Artald de Sancto Romano, keeper, on the Sunday after St. Scholastica in the 40th year, as certified by Peter de Wynton, clerk of the wardrobe. Afterwards the writ being lost, William had another in the same form with a clause nisi. July 30. To the bailiffs of Windesores. Contrabreve to receive 40 Lichfield. one-foot crossbows and 10 two-foot crossbows which the constable of the castle of Windesores will deliver out of those which he has in his keeping there, and carry them to the king at Chester with all speed by night and day, not failing hereof as they love their own bodies and all their possessions. Mandate to the constable accordingly. To the sheriff of Salop and Stafford. Contrabreve to receive 50 stags which Richard and William de Candovre, king's huntsmen, have been ordered to take in the forest of Kenefare and deliver to him, to salt the venison well, and to carry to the king at Chester for delivery to the keepers of the larder there as the said huntsmen will enjoin. To the sheriff of Warwick and Leicester. Contrabreve to let Anketill de Wikewane, burgess of Coventry, have 10 marks without delay out of the issues of those counties or some other source, for 3 tuns of wine taken from him at Coventry on the king's arrival there by the hand of John de Somers[et], king's butler, as reckoned and testified by William de Grey and Imbert Pogeys, king's stewards; not failing hereof as he loves himself and all his possessions. July 30. To the sheriff of Salop and Stafford. Contrabreve to carry 5 Lichfield. tuns of wine which the king lately ordered to be placed at Bruges against his arrival in those parts, 5 at Wenlok, and 19 at Shrewsbury, to Chester with all speed for delivery to the king's butlers there, as the king, God willing, is very soon coming with his army to Chester, where he needs purveyance of wine; the sheriff not failing hereof as he loves himself and all his possessions. To the constable of St. Briavels. Contrabreve to carry 30,000 quarrels of those which are in his keeping to the king at Chester with all speed by night and day for delivery in the wardrobe, not failing hereof etc., as the king is about departing with his army for the parts of Wales. To the sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk. Contrabreve to levy 400 marks with all speed of the issues of the last eyre in his county (sic), and let Roger de Ros the tailor and Hugh de Turri his
