41 HENRY III. 389 1257. Membrane 3-cont. The like to Agnes late the wife of Stephen Baucan, farmer of Witton, for 151. out of her farm. The like to Peter de Legh, bailiff of Hanebergh and Blockeshale, for 201. The like to the bailiffs of Cumbe and Stuntesfeld for 61. * Afterwards the order to spend the money was replaced by an order to pay it to the keepers of the king's works. To the sheriff of Derby. Contrabreve to send 8 cartloads of lead to Wudestok without delay for the king's works there, not failing hereof lest the works should remain undone for want of the lead. To the bailiffs of Suthampton. Contrabreve to carry 4 tuns of wine, which the keepers of the king's wines at Suthampton will deliver, to Oxford without delay for delivery to Adam Feteplace in lieu of 4 tuns taken from him by the hand of Matthew Bezil for the queen when the king was last at Wudestok. Mandate to P. de Gisorciis, taker of the king's wines, to deliver it out of the king's wines at Suthampton. To the sheriff of Somerset and Dorset. Contrabreve to receive 40 bucks which Robert de Edmundesthorp, king's serjeant, has been ordered to take in the forest of Gillingham, and 40 which William Luvel and Henry de Caundover, king's huntsmen, have been ordered to take in the forest of Selewud and deliver to him, to salt the venison well, and to carry it to Winchester for delivery to the sheriff of Hants, who is commanded to receive it and keep it safe till further orders. To the sheriff of Hants. Contrabreve to receive 20 bucks which Robert de Edmundesthorp has been ordered to take in the forest of Cett and deliver to him, and to salt them well and carry them to Winchester to keep till further orders. To the sheriff of Salop and Stafford. (Unfinished duplicate of 4th entry below.) To the constable of St. Briavels. Contrabreve to admit William Luvell and Henry de Candevre, king's huntsmen, whom the king is sending to take 100 bucks in the said (sic) forest, to bestow his aid and counsel therein, and to salt the venison and carry it after the king to Chester as they will enjoin, for delivery to the king's knight Walkelin de Arderne or his deputy to keep till further orders. *Added later.
