388 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1257. Membrane 4 —cont. Liberate to Henry de Bretton, after reservation as above, 251. for this Easter term for the 501. which he receives at the Exchequer. Allocate to Nicholas de Hanrad, sheriff of Oxford and Berks, in the issues of those counties, 3. marks for two robes of camlet and two furs of squirrel bought and delivered of the king's gift to Bernard La Fendue and William, players (istrionibus) of the king of Castile. MEMBRANE 3. July 18. To the sheriff of Sussex. Contrabreve, as he loves himself and Woodstock. all his possessions, to purvey the king with speed of 100 good archers in his bailiwick on view hereof, and send them to the king at Chester by St. Peter's Chains or within three days following with their bows and arrows, ready and prepared to go thence to the king in Wales, and let them have their wages in hand for 20 days at 2d. each daily, letting the king know the date from which they are paid, as he has summoned his army to Chester etc. (as on p. 381). To the bailiffs of Suthampton. Contrabreve to carry to Oxford two tuns of wine which the keepers of the king's wines at Suthampton will deliver, for delivery to Adam Feteplace and William le Especer in lieu of 2 tuns taken from them when the king was last at Wudestok. To the same. Contrabreve to buy a tun of wine out of the farm of their town without delay and deliver it to William de Turbervill of the king's gift. To the sheriff of Northampton. Contrabreve to purvey the king of 100 good lancers (lengatoribus) and to send them to Chester with their lances (lengis) etc. (as in third entry above, but omitting the rate of wages). To the bailiffs of Billingham (sic). Contrabreve to let Reynold de Drumar', knight, have 100s. of the king's gift without delay out of the farm of Gillingham. To the bailiff of Bladen. Contrabreve, as he loves himself and all his possessions, to spend 81. out of the farm of his bailiwick on the king's works at Wudestok before St. Peter's Chains by view and testimony of Master John de Gloucestria the king's mason and the viewers of the king's works there, not failing hereof lest the works be delayed through his default. The like to the bailiff of Wudestok for 121. out of the farm of his bailiwick.
