To William de Ryston, bailiff of Wodestok. Contrabreve to make a limekiln for the king's works at Wodestok of the brushwood left after the celebration of the king's feast there at the coming of the king of Scotland, the cost to be credited by view and testimony of good and lawful men. June 20. Liberate to Master Mansel le Taylur 30 marks to finish the king's Westminster. pavilions in addition to the 30 marks already commanded, provided that he shall account in the Exchequer for all sums received for that work. Contrabreve, as he loves his body and all his possessions, to purvey 100 quarters of wheat and 100 quarters of oats with all speed for the king in his bailiwick, and bring them to Newcastle-under-Lyme by St. Peter's Chains next at the latest for delivery to such persons as the king shall by then have commanded; seeing that the king has summoned his army to Chester for that feast to start thence with the king into Wales to succour that land against the king's Welsh (Walenges) enemies, as the sheriff knows, where he will need purveyance of victuals; not failing hereof lest the king should betake himself seriously to him if he incurs loss by the sheriff's default. The like to the sheriff of Salop and Stafford for 100 quarters of wheat and 100 quarters of oats. The like to the sheriff of Nottingham. The like to the sheriff of Worcester for 100 quarters of oats. The like to the sheriff of Northampton for 100 quarters of old wheat to be brought to Newcastle by the said feast, and 100 quarters of new wheat to be brought thither by the Exaltation of the Holy Cross next following.
