320 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1256. Membrane 4-cont. Liberate, postponing all other business as yet enjoined, to A. king of Scotland 500 marks, and to Henry son of the king of Castile 200 marks, of the king's gift; 200 marks for the king's works at Westminster to the keepers thereof; 100 marks to the keeper of the queen's wardrobe to meet her expenses; and 300 marks to Artald de Sancto Romano, keeper of the wardrobe, to meet the expenses of the household. To the sheriff of Devon. Contrabreve to pay 100s. yearly at Michaelmas so long as he is sheriff to the daughter of Joan de Gorges, who used to dwell in the queen's chamber at Windesores, of the king's gift for her maintenance. To the sheriff of Gloucester. Contrabreve to buy a tun of wine at Bristol and deliver it to Wybert de Ruwe of the king's gift. Sept. 9. Liberate to the king's brother Guy de Lezignan to the use of Westminster. Raymond de Baret, who has appointed him to receive it, 301. for Easter terms in the 38th, 39th, and 40th years of the yearly fee of 101. granted to Raymond to maintain himself in the king's service. To the sheriff of Kent. Contrabreve to buy in his bailiwick 300 quarters of wheat and 50 tuns of wine, either wine of the last vintage or wine of rack (recco) which will presently come to England, and deliver them to Reynold de Cobham, constable of Dover castle, for its supply, as it is not at present supplied with corn and wine as it should need to be; the cost to be credited by view. Sept. 10. Liberate to John le Archer 40s. for 2 tuns of prisage-wine, to Westminster. Raymond Arn[aldi] 101. for 5 tuns of wine, to Amaneus Colum 40s. for 2 tuns of prisage-wine, to Ern' Rose 201. for a thousand of wax, to Richard Box 201. for the like, and to Peter Ludbek 25s. for 100 pieces of sturgeon (frustris de esturgun) taken from them for the king by William de Heselbech his chamberlain of London. Cancelled. In margin: Non (corrected from nondum) habuit breve. To the sheriff of Nottingham. Contrabreve to receive 50 stags given to the king by Edward his son in his forest of the Peak, which Richard and William de Candovr' the king's huntsmen will take there and deliver, and to salt the venison and carry it to Westminster against the coming feast of St. Edward for delivery to the keeper of the larder. To the sheriff of Northumberland. Contrabreve to pay 20s. each for 6 tuns of wine of lawful prisage in his keeping taken by
