40 HENRY III. 313 1256. Membrane 5-cont. Allocate to William de Lasseberg, sheriff of Gloucester, in the issues of the king's fair of Winchecumbe, 181. 16s. 8d. spent in purchase of a palfrey and two pack-horses for the queen in the said fair by view and testimony of Master Walter the queen's farrier (marescalli) and Master John the king's farrier; and 151. 18s. delivered in the wardrobe at Gloucester to the said Artald on the morrow of St. James in the 40th year. To the sheriff of Gloucester. Contrabreve to remove the king's kitchen which adjoins the chamber of Edward the king's son in Gloucester castle and put it in another appropriate place to be found by Matthias Bezille, keeper of the castle, and Master John the mason; to make a chamber for the king's chaplains there by arrangement of the said Matthias and John; and to paint the king's chapel there; the cost to be met out of the farm of the county or other issues of his bailiwick, and credited by view and testimony of lawful men. To the same. Contrabreve to let the said Matthias have a tun of good wine of the king's gift from the like sources. To the same. Contrabreve to pay 1 mark of the king's gift out of the issues of the county to Thomas Cherlot, formerly minstrel (istrioni) of Godfrey de Craucumbe. To the sheriff of Salop. Contrabreve to let the king's kinsman Peter Aubucun have a tun of wine of the king's gift. To the sheriff of Essex. Contrabreve to pay 15 marks to the keepers of the king's works at Havering to finish the queen's chapel there. July 26. Allocate to the bailiffs of Gloucester, in the farm of their town, Cloucester. 181. 6s. 5Id. spent in purchase of 100 lampreys and 8 shad (alosis) sent to the king in the 39th year, as accounted for and attested by Peter de Winton, clerk of the wardrobe; 67s. 24d. spent in purchase of 30 lampreys and 10 shad sent to the king in the 40th year, as accounted for and attested by the same Peter; 28s. 9d. spent in purchase of 10 lampreys sent to the queen at Merleberge in the same year as testified by Matthias Bezill her steward when the king was in the parts of Norfolk and Suffolk; and 41. 7s. 8d. spent in carriage of the same and of other lampreys coming from the king's own weirs in those years. To the constable of St. Briavels. Contrabreve to let the keepers of the king's works at Gloucester castle have 6 oaks in the forest of Dene for those works, in addition to the 6 already ordered,
