310 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1256. Membrane 6-cont. was ordered to pay out of the said issues but did not, because he was removed from office before the estreats of the eyre came to him. Liberate to Peter de Chauvent, after payments to Count Thomas de Sabaudia and the king's brothers as enjoined, 60 marks for Easter term in the 40th year of his yearly fee of 60 marks. Liberate to Laurence del Brok, after payments as above, 101. for the term of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in the 40th year of his yearly fee of 201. Liberate without fail to John de Gatesden, of the first moneys received at the coming Michaelmas Exchequer, 1001. borrowed by him of certain foreign merchants for his expenses in setting out with W. bishop of Ely on the king's errand to the parts of Spain. July 10. To Stephen Fromund, keeper of the king's manors of Merleberge Clarendon. and Lutegareshale. Contrabreve for a payment into the queen's wardrobe (see m. 5, 7th entry). Cancelled quia aliter inferius. To the keeper of the bishopric of Salisbury. Contrabreve to pay 50 marks with all possible speed to the keeper of the queen's wardrobe for her expenses, out of the issues of the bishopric or those of the last eyre of the liberties of the bishopric in co. Wilts. To the bailiffs of Suthampton. Contrabreve to pay for 3 tuns of wine of lawful prisage to be delivered by Roger le Flemmeng to John Picard of Rading in lieu of 3 tuns taken from him for the king by the hands of Johel the king's butler when the king was last at Rading. July 10. To the sheriff of Nottingham. Contrabreve to pay to Reynold Clarendon. de Salynes 101. for Easter term in the 40th year of his yearly fee of 201., and 100s. for William de Arboys (see Calendar of Patent Rolls, 1247-1258, p. 379). To the sheriff of Hants. Contrabreve to go in person to the king's castle of Porrecestr' with Master John the mason and Master Alexander the carpenter, to whom the king is writing, to view the defects of the castle and its buildings, and to contract (committas) therefor by task-work without delay by the advice of the said masters, doing as may seem to him best for the king's advantage. July 11. To the sheriff of Wilts. Contrabreve to receive 12 bucks to be Amesbury. taken in Adam de Greynvyle's bailiwick of Selewode and delivered
