292 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1256. Membrane 10-cont. To the sheriff of Surrey. Contrabreve to pay 40s. without delay to Geoffrey de Lucy, who is in the king's ward, for a horse lost in the king's service. May 8. Allocate to Amfrid de Ferringes, formerly sheriff of Surrey and Windsor. Sussex, in the issues of those counties, 61. 10s. delivered for the works at Guldeford to Ellis Maunsel and Richard the constable, keepers thereof, at the Invention of the Holy Cross in the 39th year, and 65s. 2d. spent in purchase of iron delivered to the said keepers for the works in the same year, as testified by Ellis. Liberate to Master Girard de Lygne, after payment to Count Thomas de Sabaudia as specially enjoined, 101. for Easter term in the 40th year of the 101. granted to him yearly till the king shall provide for him in a sufficient ecclesiastical benefice. May 8. Allocate to Roger le Bigoth, earl of Norfolk and marshal of Windsor. England, in his debts due at the Easter Exchequer in the 40th year, at the instance of A. elect of Winchester his debtor, 100 marks in lieu of a like sum payable to the said elect by a recent writ of liberate (p. 283), unless the latter payment has been already made. Allocate to Alan la Zusche, formerly justice of Chester, in the farm of the county, 441. 16s. 5d. wherewith he was charged by John de Grey, formerly justice, in rendering his account, for the munitions of the castles of Gannoc and Dissard which Alan received from him and delivered to Edward the king's son, provided that John's valuation is just. Liberate without delay and without fail to Artald de Sancto Romano, keeper of the wardrobe, 200 marks for the expenses of the household. May 10. To John de Somerkote, keeper of the exchange, or his deputy. Windsor. Contrabreve to pay to the king's brother R. carl of Cornwall 250 marks for Easter term and 250 marks for Michaelmas term in the 39th year, and 250 marks for Easter term in the 40th year of his yearly fee of 500 marks. Liberate to William de Clare, after payment to Count Thomas de Sabaudia as specially enjoined, 50 marks for Easter term in the 40th year of his yearly fee of 100 marks (see Calendar of Patent Rolls, 1247-1258, p. 456).
