280 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1256. Membrane 12-cont. April 20. Allocate to Gilbert de Preston, in his debts to the king, 201. Westminster. for the same term of his yearly fee of 401. Liberate without delay to Baldwin de Avennes 50 marks imprest on his yearly fee of 100 marks. Liberate to John de Castello, knight of John de Avennes, 20 marks of the king's gift for his expenses homewards. April 21. Allocate to Stephen Fromund, constable of the castle of MerleWestminster. berg, in the issues of his bailiwick, 50s. spent in repair of a bridge over (ultra) the castle ditch towards the meadow, of a sluice, and of the great lawn (pratelli) below the king's chamber, when the queen was staying there in Lent last. Allocate to Ralph de Ardern, sheriff of Essex and Herts, in the issues of those counties, 1131. 6s. 8d. delivered in the wardrobe to Artald de Sancto Romano, keeper, at Westminster on the Friday in Easter week in the 40th year for the king's expenses; 41. 8s. 4d. for purchase of 2 tuns of wine delivered to John de Somersete the king's butler on the king's last journey through the parts of Essex; and 6s. 2d. spent in purchase of six dozen and two fowls against Easter last, delivered to the keepers of the king's poultry. Allocate to John de Sumercote, keeper of the exchange, in the issues thereof, 331. 6s. 8d. delivered in the wardrobe at Westminster to Artald de Sancto Romano, keeper, on the Saturday after Ash Wednesday in the 40th year by the hands of John Hardel, and 1331. 6s. 8d. delivered in like manner on the Tuesday in Easter week. Allocate to the bailiffs of Colecestr', in the farm of their town, 231. 6s. lid. for 518 ells of russet of Colecestr' bought of them by the hands of Roger le Taylur and Bonacius the Lombard, then buyers of the wardrobe, against the king's last return from Gascony, and for carriage thereof from Colecestr' to Westminster. April 21. Liberate without delay to brothers William de Prato and Westminster. William Amanevi, messengers of the guardian and convent of friars minors of Bordeaux, 25 marks out of 50 marks granted to them to buy a plot (aream) to enlarge the site of their house. Liberate without delay and without fail to Vincent, clerk and messenger of the bishop of Morocco, 5 marks for his expenses homewards, as the king cannot at present make satisfaction of the money he owes the bishop.
