272 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1256. Membrane 14-cont. To the sheriff of Wilts. Contrabreve to repair where necessary the breach of the castle of Salisbury which has lately fallen in, the cost to be credited by view. MEMBRANE 13. Schedule. Note that 130 marks were delivered to William Bonquer for his expenses in going beyond seas, 100 marks to Peter de Soler' for his expenses in going with him, to Master Finatus and Master Robert de Baro the king's proctors in the court of Rome 20 marks each on their respective fees, to Master Jordan the Pope's notary 30 marks on his fee, and to Raymond Makeyn 50 marks of the king's gift for his praiseworthy service and because he was waiting to be paid in England. Feb. 20. To the constable of the castle of Merleberg. Contrabreve to Woodstock. pay 501. without delay to the queen to meet the expenses of her household. Allocate to Nicholas de Hanred, sheriff of Oxford, in the issues of his county, 50 marks delivered in the wardrobe to Artald etc. on the Sunday before St. Peter's Chair in the 40th year for the king's expenses. To John de Haneberg and William de Ruston, farmers of the king's manor of Wodestok. Contrabreve to mend the fireplace of the queen's inner wardrobe at Wodestok so far as is necessary; to buy an image of St. Mary for the chapel of the queen's chamber; to amend the painting in the king's chamber where necessary; to make a penthouse between the queen's kitchen and the new chamber towards the king's cellar, with a porch before the door of the chamber, and a wardrobe by the chamber of the king's stewards; to block up the two doors of the same chamber and make a new one where necessary; to make a hedge round the king's stew in his garden and another between the chamber at the gate of Evereswell and the king's chapel at the wells there; and to mend the bay next the king's stable where necessary, and the buildings and walls where absolutely necessary; the cost to be credited by view. Allocate to the same John, in the issues of the same manor, 8s. 2d. spent in salting 30 bucks taken by the king's brother R. earl of Cornwall in the forest of Wodestok for the king, and in carrying them to Westminster against the feast of St. Edward last past; and 12s. 8d. spent in salting 200 does taken in the park by Robert de Mares, and in carriage of one-half thereof to Winchester against Christmas last, and of the other half to Westminster against the next feast of St. Edward.
