Contrabreve to spend 100s. this year in amendment and maintenance of the buildings in the king's castle of Gloucester by view and testimony of the constable and the viewers of the king's works there, as the king does not wish that the buildings should fall down for lack of repairs. Jan. 20. Liberate without delay to Deuteutus, merchant of Florence, Windsor. 671. for 30 tuns of wine, to Philip Taylor (Cissori) 231. 6s. 8d. for 10 tuns, to Peter Coyfer 501. 8s. for 24 tuns, to William Reymundi 1201. for 60 tuns, and to Peter Gyles 841. for 40 tuns, taken from them for the king by the hand of John de Gisorciis his chamberlain of London. Liberate to Arnold, chaplain of Saut, 101. for damages, losses, and expenses sustained through the king's war in Gascony. Liberate to Martin, yeoman of William Arnaldi de Tarl' (rectius Tard?) 40s. for his expenses homewards, to be reckoned against the arrears of his lord's wages, for which the king cannot satisfy him before Michaelmas next. Jan. 20. To the sheriff of Cumberland. Contrabreve to finish the two Windsor. great catapults (blidas) which the king ordered to be made by Master Gerard his engineer at Carlisle, the cost to be credited by view. Jan. 20. To the bailiffs of Newcastle-on-Tyne. Contrabreve to make Windsor. cords, slings, and ironwork fit for the said catapults in their town as Master Gerard will tell them on the king's behalf, and to carry them to Carlisle for delivery to him to finish the catapults, the cost to be credited by view. Liberate to Master Henry de Averenches 60s. of the king's gift for his expenses. Jan. 23. Liberate to Peter de Monte Forti 251. yearly at the Easter Windsor. Exchequer, and 251. at that of Michaelmas, granted to him and his heirs till the king shall make provision for them in lands of that value, in lieu of the release which he made of his right and claim in all the woods which the king holds in the forest of Roteland. These letters are patent. MEMBRANE 14. Jan. 25. Liberate to William de Augmania, who has been staying with Windsor. the king in expectation of the money due to Fulk de Mastak his lord, 5 marks of the king's gift for his expenses homewards.
