39 HENRY III. 239 1255. Membrane 3-cont. To the sheriff of Hereford. Contrabreve to pay 10 marks of the king's gift to Matthias Bezill in partial recompense for horses lost on the king's service. Sept. 3. To the bailiffs of Newcastle-on-Tyne. Contrabreve to pay 40s. Alnwick. without delay to the king's yeoman Emery de Lucy to buy himself a horse of the king's gift. Sept. 5. To the same. Contrabreve to make a like payment of 40s. to Chillingham. the king's yeoman Bertram de Beyvyle. To the sheriff of Northumberland. Contrabreve to carry 2 tuns of wine with speed to Durham on view of these letters, 1 to Derlynton, and 1 to Alverton, to place in the king's cellars there against his arrival, of the king's wines which are at Newcastleon-Tyne. Sept. 6. To the bailiffs of York. Contrabreve to pay 100s. without delay Wark. to the king's chaplain John, prior of Newburgh, to buy himself a palfrey of the king's gift. To the sheriff of Devon. Contrabreve, so long as he is sheriff, to pay 10 marks yearly to Richard Folyot and Juliana his wife, and one-half to the survivor on the death of either, as they were long since disinherited of all their lands in Normandy for their service to the king, and he granted them this sum for life, half at Easter and half at Michaelmas. Sept. 7. To the sheriff of Cumberland. Contrabreve to pay 20s. to the Wark. king's miners of Aldeston who have come to the king in the parts of Scotland for their labours and expenses in so doing. To the sheriff of Northumberland. Contrabreve to pay 40s. to William de Renham, king's yeoman, to buy himself a horse of the king's gift. MEMBRANE 2. Sept. 13. To the mayor and bailiffs of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. ContraWark. breve to pay 2 marks to John de Tany, king's yeoman, to buy himself a rouncey of the king's gift. Allocate to Reynold de Cobham, sheriff of Kent, in part payment of 20 marks of gold whereof he made a fine for the wardship and marriage of the land and heir of [Robert] de Sevauns, 10 marks of gold paid in the wardrobe, that is, 2 marks at Windesores on the Thursday after St. Scolastica, 2 at Westminster on the Saturday after St. Philip and St. James, and 2 at Portesm' on the Thursday after the Translation of St. Martin, all in the 37th
