186 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1254. Membrane 14-cont. Nov. 24. Liberate to Roger de Leyburn 20 marks for Michaelmas term W[estminster]. in the 38th year of the yearly fee of 40 marks granted to him to maintain himself in the king's service till the king shall make provision for him in lands of that value out of his wards or escheats. Liberate to John de Norhampton, citizen of London, 1001. to buy furs for the king against his arrival in England. Liberate to Richard de Rokesle 38s. for a hundred of wax bought of him for the king's children dwelling at Windesores [by the hand of Philip Luvel, treasurer] * in the 38th year. By Philip Luvel. MEMBRANE 13. Nov. 24. Allocate to William de Esseby and Robert de Linton,t sheriffs Westminster. of London, in the farm of the city, 311. 14s. 5id. spent in purchase of bread, flour, canvas, napkins, towels, boars (braonibus), cranes, fish, salt, and other things against the celebration of the feast of St. Edward last past. To the sheriff of Hereford. Contrabreve to spend up to 100s. by view and testimony of lawful men in mending the hall and chamber in the king's castle of Hereford. To the constable of St. Briavels. Contrabreve to let John Malemort, maker of the king's quarrels at St. Briavels, have materials etc. (as on p. 89). To the sheriff of Surrey. Contrabreve to let Ellis Maunsel have 2d. daily from Michaelmas in the 38th year till Easter following for keeping the park of Geudeford. Nov. 30. To the sheriff of Buckingham. Contrabreve to levy 25 marks Westminster. of the issues of the last eyre in the county and pay them to Robert de Shotin[den] (as on m. 14, 13th entry from foot). The like for John de Cave. The like to the sheriff of Bedford to levy 30 marks for Master Simon de Wautton. To the sheriff of Cambridge. Contrabreve to levy without delay the amercements of 10 marks each imposed on Nicholas de Chilman, Leoneus Duning', and Peter Wulward before the king's council resident in England for not producing Eustace son of Adam Duning, a malefactor, and John Wulward, whom * Cancelled by dots underneath. t These names are replaced by others in the printed list of sheriffs.
