38 HENRY III. 181 1254. Membrane 1 —cont. Robert after the death of William de Boeles, who held it of the king's gift. To the constable of Devizes. Contrabreve to make 20,000 shingles without delay in the forest of Chippenham and carry them to Merleberge for delivery to the constable of Merleberge to repair the king's buildings there, the cost to be credited by view. To the bailiffs of Suhampton. Contrabreve to pay for a tun of prisage-wine to be delivered by the keepers of the king's wines there, which the abbot and convent of Beaulieu receive there by the king's charter for celebration of divine service. Mandate to the said keepers accordingly. To the bailiff of Winchelese and La Rye. Contrabreve to repair the houses of the king's galleys of La Rye where necessary by view and testimony of lawful men, spending one mark thereon unless it can be done for less. Oct. 19. Liberate to Nicholas de Synos 281. 3s. 4d. for 13 tuns of Gascon Westminster. wine, and to John Pelet 71. 12s. for 4 tuns of wine, bought of them in Boston fair by the hands of Robert de Dacre. Liberate to John de Frethorn 10 marks as an imprest on his wages. By Philip Luvel, by order of the earl. Allocate to Henry de Bathonia, in his debts to the king, 50 marks due to him for Michaelmas term in the 38th year of the yearly fee of 100 marks which he receives to maintain himself in the king's service. Liberate to Clement de Welles and Robert Coby, chaplains, their wages (as on p. 177) from Michaelmas in the 38th year till Easter following. To the sheriff of Northampton. Contrabreve to carry John de Berkhamsted, detained in the king's prison of Norhampton for forgery of the king's money, whereof he is accused (rettatus), to London under a sure guard for delivery to the keeper of the king's gaol of Niwegate, who is ordered to receive him. Oct. 28. Allocate to John de Sumercote, keeper of the exchange, in the Windsor. issues thereof, 27s. 8d. spent in making 24 silver spoons for the king's children dwelling in the castle of Windesores. Allocate to Stephen de Feugeres, keeper of the lands of the countess of Eu (Com' Augi) in England, in the issues thereof, 3861. 6s. 8d. delivered to the keepers of the king's works at Windesores to carry out those works.
