126 CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1253* Membrane 5-cont. other half to the Severn for delivery to the sheriff of Gloucester for the king's works at Gloucester. To the sheriff of Gloucester. Contrabreve to carry to Gloucester for the king's works the lime to be delivered to him as above. To James de Aldithele, bailiff of Newcastle-under-Lyme. Contrabreve to block up the pond of the said castle, which was lately broken on the occasion of the sale of the fish in the king's stew there, the cost to be credited by view. May 9. Liberate to Bidaw de la Naw, burgess of Dax (Aquensis), 50 Westminster. marks in lieu of a like sum received of him on loan by William de Boeles in Gascony after Christmas last to fortify the king's castle of Sault de Navailles (Saltu). By K. To the sheriff of Nottingham. Contrabreve to buy vestments, books, and a chalice for the chapel of the king's castle of Harestan, and to place them in the chapel. May 10. Liberate without delay to P. Chaceporc, keeper of the wardrobe, Westminster. 1000 marks for the expenses of the household. Liberate to Guy de Lezignan 4001. for the 34th, 35th, 36th, and 37th years of the yearly fee of 1001. granted by the king to Gaucher de Chastillun and by Gaucher to Guy, to whom the king has made letters patent thereof (R6les Gascons, I, 2163). May 12. Liberate without delay to Bernard Prosperin, merchant of Westminster. Florence, 1101. which he delivered on loan to Master Ankctin in the court of Rome to obtain certain papal letters for the king. Liberate to the executors of Richard the second, bishop of Chichester, 250 marks at the Michaelmas Exchequer in the 37th year, 250 marks at the Easter Exchequer following, and 250 marks at the Michaelmas Exchequer in the 38th year, which the king has given for the discharge of the debts of the church of Chichester. *Afterwards the executors had the king's letters to all of them for payment at the terms contained in the liberate, the date of which letters is at Westminster on 29 May. Computate to Adam de Estun, in the issues of the bishopric of Chichester, 181. 12s. delivered to P. Chaceporc, keeper [of the wardrobe], at Westminster on the Saturday after St. John before the Latin Gate in the 37th year, when he was keeper of the bishopric. * Added afterwards.
