CALENDAR OF LIBERATE ROLLS. 1241. Membrane 15-cont. To H. de Neketon. Contrabreve to cause the lands in his keeping by order of the king late of John son of Robert, to be well tilled and sown, the cost to be credited by view. To the keeper of the lands of W. formerly earl Warenne in cos. Sussex and Surrey. Contrabreve to cause the sick of the house of All Saints, Belencumb, to have 9-1 marks fixed alms in the manors of Lewes and Reygate as long as the lands are in the king's hand if they used to receive it in the earl's time. March 10. Liberate to Clarus de Palazal', merchant of Florence, however Windsor. it can be done (omnibus modis et modis omnibus), notwithstanding any command to the contrary, 400 marks which he paid to John de Lexinton, Nicholas de Bolevill, and Masters Alexander le Seculer and John de Dya, going as the king's messengers; the said Clarus to give up the instrument which he has concerning the loan. March 12. To the keepers of the archbishopric of Canterbury. Contrabreve Windsor. to cause William de Corneham to have 401. of the king's gift out of the issues of the archbishopric. To the bailiffs of Sudhampton. Contrabreve to cause the king's buildings at Sudhampton which need it to be repaired, the chapel to be roofed, the bailey to be enclosed, and a chamber (cam') to be made; the cost to be credited by view. To the constable of St. Briavels. Contrabreve to take 15 does and 5 bucks alive at the king's cost in the forest of Dene, and to carry them to Sugwas to stock the park of P. bishop of Hereford there. [Cancelled quia aliter inferius.] March 13. To the keepers of the bishopric of Winchester. Contrabreve to Windsor. cause Mayngus de Anton, bearer of these presents, to have 40s. of the king's gift for his expenses. To Drew de Barentin. Contrabreve to spend 300 marks out of the farm of the king's islands which are in his hands on the works of the castles of Gernere and Geresy, by view of Peter de Mungumery. To the keepers of the bishopric of Winchester. Contrabreve to pay, out of the issues of the bishopric, 50 marks to the keepers of the king's works at Windsor for the same works.
