Contrabreve to repair the king's mills of Oreford, the cost to be credited by the view and testimony of lawful men. July 5. To the constable of Devizes castle. Contrabreve to permit Writtle. Roger de Stopham, the king's huntsman, to take 12 bucks in the outwoods (forinsecis boscis) of the forest of Melkesham for Edward the king's son, and to salt them and carry them to Windles' as they are taken. July 8. Liberate to Villanus de Fossato, Ralph Page and William le Westminster. Blund, king's serjeants, to guard his prisoners at the Tower of London, each receiving 12d. daily, their liveries from the morrow of the Invention of the Holy Cross to St. Peter's Chains, both days included. July 15. Liberate to Adam de Haunfeld 30s. lid. paid to divers of the Westminster. king's couriers (cursoribus) for their expenses in going on his messages. Liberate to Wybert (Exch. Roll Walter) de Kancia and Jordan de Eynho 461. 3s. 5d. to pay for robes for the household of Edward the king's son against Whitsuntide. Liberate to Bertram de Cryoil 100 marks to build 4 swift (cursales) barges for the king and place them in the Cinque Ports where it shall seem to him best. (Exch. Roll July 16.) To the bailiffs of Bristol. Contrabreve to send the larger of the king's two galleys which are in their keeping to Winchelese for delivery to Bertram de Crioyl to carry out the king's orders, and to keep the other safely till further orders. May 6. Liberate to W. archbishop of York and Bertram de Crioyl Portsmouth. 20 marks for keeping the Tower of London for half a year from Christmas to Midsummer in this year. By the king. July 20. Liberate to Richard de Tanrkeleg', William de Graham, and Ivo Westminster. de Kirkeby, newly appointed watchmen in the Tower of London on account of William de Marisco, each receiving 2d. daily as livery, their liveries from 19, June to the Assumption, both days included. (Exch. Roll July 25.) By W. archbishop of York. Liberate to Hugh de Skelale and Payn Wake, each receiving 9d. daily, and Waleis le Page, receiving 3d., newly appointed serjeants in the Tower of London on account of William de Marisco, their liveries from the Saturday after the Translation of St. Thomas the MIartyr to the Assumption, both days included.
