By him are a series of medals relating to the European War of I9I4-1915: Medallion, cast bronze, 90 mill.: Hercules fighting serpents; Siege of Tsingtau, I914; - The Cruiser Emden, 9 I4; - Loss of the Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, Leipzig and Nuirnberg, 8. Dec. 1914; - Taking of Antwerp, io October 19iI; - Capitulation of Maubeuge, 7.9. I914; - To the German Army;Victory of Craonne, 26. January 1915 (with bust of Frederick Augustus III., king of Saxony); - Capt. Otto Weddingen, I914 -15;- The New Year 19r6; A. 33 mill.; - S.M.S. Dresden, 14. Medallist at Toronto, circ. i860, in which year he engraved a commemorative medal of the Inauguration of the Victoria Bridge of the Grand Trunk Railway of Canada (2 var.). HOFMANN, ALFRED (Austr.). Contemporary Sculptor of Vienna, by whom is a Souvenir Plaquette of the ' Bodenkultur-Hochschule' in Vienna, I913, and a Memorial medal of Prince George William, Duke of Brunswick and Luneburg, I9I2 (signed A.H.); - Archduke Eugene, 9 14-1915; iron, 4o mill.; - Conrad Baron von Hotzendorf, Chief of the Austrian Headquarter Staff; iron, 40 mill. HOFMANN, GEORG FRANZ (B. D.M., Vol. II, p. 5 3). He died in 171I 3, and was a relative of the Viennese Engraver Johann Michael Hoffmann. He worked at the Mints of Breslau, Oppeln and Briey.
