559 Here we find (a) the old cases in -um, -en, -a,
dropped and replaced by Prepositions; (b) the Interrogative " of whom" has supplanted the Possessive Case of the old Relative " thaxs;" (c) the
Auxiliary " schal " has stepped in to form a Future;

Of the A.D 1150 Version, Mr. Skeat says, in his Preface, page x.
"It isinteresting as shlewing how the lanrguage beg:tn to lose strength
in its Intlectional forms, as is at once apparent by comparing it with
the older text here printed beside it."
2 Here, it is true, the original has the Present; but in v. 8, "he
shall baptize you," the same difference is apparent.
