" The earth" means "the planet, known as earth," " the earth known as distinct from the sea," &c. "Earth" means "our Parent Earth" personified: - (2) " The earth is larger than the moon." (3) "Earth smiles around, with boundless bounty blest." We still use "the" before'a Noun denoting a class, to define the individual selected out of that class - "The Prophet Daniel;" " the Astronomer Adams; " i.e., "the astronomer known by the name of Adams."
