How to parse. ...

Par. 382-384.] PREPOSITIONS. 223 (4) " Nabbe we buten the west end," i e. "we have but the west end." (5) " Nas he there bute one night," i.e. "he was there but one night." 382 9. Prepositions are sometimes used with Adverbs (used as Nouns) for their Objects - (1) "What. kind of country is it between here and Dover " (2) " The light comes/from behind, not from above." 3) " Until quite recently." "Since then." "For once." " Of yore." The older and preferable forms " Whither?" "Whence?" seem in danger of being supplanted by the modern "Where-to?" Where-from? "(4) " Wthere does this road lead to?" 383 Sometimes the Preposition precedes not an Adverb, but an Adverbial Phrase: - (5) "The mountain tremblesfr om on-high." (6) " Froml beneath-the-ground." "From beyond-theseas." (7) " Not till abont-six-years-afterwards."" "Till withina-f e w-weeks -of- his-death." (8) "It was soldfor under-half-its-value." 384 10. The Object of a Preposition is sometimes omitted, (1) when the Object is a Relative Pronoun, (2) when the Preposition completes a Verb in the Infinitive: - (1) " The will (that) I told you of is lost." (2) " lie lent me his horse to escape upon."
